Product Described: Variable Price Barcode Parser
Question:
A merchant using Clover Station Duo and a CAS SW-RS 10KG scale (SW-1S-10KG-RS-CA) asked whether they could pair that scale with a separate label printer — and if that setup would be compatible with the Variable Price Barcode Parser (VPBP) App. The intent is to streamline checkout by weighing, printing, and scanning items, all without switching hardware.
The logic is clear: buying a separate label printer seems like a quick fix. But is it compatible with how VPBP works?
Answer:
Unfortunately, no — a separate label printer cannot be used with the Variable Price Barcode Parser App.
VPBP requires barcodes to be generated by a scale with a built-in printer. External printers — like kitchen, order, or sticky label printers — cannot generate the specially formatted barcodes that VPBP reads. These external printers simply don’t produce the barcode structure needed by the app.
Your CAS SW-RS scale, while fully compatible with Clover as a weight-reading device, lacks printing functionality and thus can’t produce scannable barcodes — even with an external printer attached.
If you're looking to print weight-based barcodes for Clover POS, you'll need a scale with integrated printing, such as the CAS LP1000N or NP Series.
Comparison of Common Printer Types (Not Compatible with VPBP):
Summary:
External printers cannot be used with Variable Price Barcode Parser.
VPBP only works with scales that have built-in barcode label printers.
CAS SW-RS does not have printing capabilities.
Recommended: use CAS LP1000N or NP series for barcode printing support.
