A butcher shop client wanted to speed up the checkout process by placing Ribeye Steaks on their Detecto scale and sending the live weight straight to the Clover POS—no barcode printing, no scanning. They reached out to ask whether either the Weight Embedded Barcode Parser or the Variable Price Barcode Parser could support this type of setup.
Answer:
The limitation here lies with the Detecto scale hardware itself—it does not have the ability to communicate weight data directly to Clover. Both apps require a printed label with a barcode, which is then scanned into Clover to retrieve weight and price information.
If the goal is to completely skip barcode printing and scanning and send live weight data straight to the Clover POS, the only compatible solution is the
CAS SW-RS scale. It is the only scale on the market that
physically connects to Clover POS and enables direct weight transfer without the need for any label scanning.
So while the barcode parser apps work well with printed labels, a true “live weight” integration requires specific scale hardware—and Detecto is not one of them.
