How to Adjust Barcode Format Parsing for Weights Over 10kg

Question

A merchant reported that when using the Weight Embedded Barcode Parser, items weighing under 10kg scanned correctly, but items weighing over 10kg failed. For example, chicken cut at 3.43kg worked fine, while chicken cut at 10.33kg would not scan properly.

Answer

This issue was caused by how the barcode was programmed on the label scale. The leading “2” digit in the barcode was not being counted as part of the item code. Once the weight exceeded 10kg, the mismatch caused the parser to fail.

Solution:

Adjust the barcode format on the CAS scale so that the Item Code (I) portion is shortened from 6 digits to 5 digits, making the leading “2” part of the Item Code.

Configuration Example:

  1. Scale barcode format:  I I I I I C W W W W W C
  2. Weight Embedded Barcode Parser  setting: 4th option
  3. Clover item code: I I I I I
With this adjustment, both smaller weights and larger weights (over 10kg) scanned correctly in Clover.

Tip
If your items scan correctly at lower weights but fail when weights exceed 10kg, check your barcode format setup. A leading digit may need to be included in the Item Code section to align with Clover.
