How to Identify if Your Barcode is Weight Embedded or Price Embedded

Question

Merchants often ask: “How do I know whether my scale is producing weight-embedded or price-embedded barcodes, and which CSI Works app should I install on Clover?”

Answer

The fastest way to tell is by looking at the printed label from your scale.

  • Weight-Embedded Barcode – The barcode includes the total weight of the item (e.g., 1.25 lbs). Clover multiplies this weight by the unit price you set in inventory.

  • Price-Embedded Barcode – The barcode includes the total price of the item (e.g., $6.20). Clover uses this exact price during checkout.

How to check your label

  1. Print a label from your scale.
  2. Look at the numbers inside the barcode.
    1. If you can see the final price reflected in the digits → it’s price embedded.
    2. If you see the weight reflected in the digits → it’s weight embedded.
  3. Based on this:
    1. Use Variable Price Barcode Parser if your barcode is price embedded.
    2. Use Weight Embedded Barcode Parser if your barcode is weight embedded.
