Compatibility of Integrated Scanner/Scale Units with Clover POS

Question

Merchants sometimes ask if Clover POS can work with recessed countertop scales that include both a weight scale and an integrated barcode scanner (see picture below). These units are common in large supermarkets and are often mistaken for “label printing scales.” The question is whether Clover, together with the Variable Price Barcode Parser App

Answer

Clover does not support integrated scanner/scale combinations such as the Honeywell. These devices weigh an item and scan its barcode in one step, but Clover has no native way to read data from such hardware.

Instead, Clover with the help of the Variable Price Barcode Parser App supports label printing scales. These are different:

1. A label printing scale weighs the item, then prints a barcode label.
   
2. That barcode contains both the item number and the embedded price (or weight, depending on configuration).
   
3. At checkout, Clover scans the label and the Variable Price Barcode Parser App interprets it so the correct item and price are added to the order automatically.

Supported label printing scales include:

• CAS CL5500 Series

• CAS LP1000N or NP Series
  

Common Misunderstanding
It’s easy to confuse integrated scanner/scale units with label printing scales:

• Integrated scanner/scale units (like the one pictured) are designed for supermarket front-end lanes. They do not print labels, and Clover cannot read their output.
