A merchant is currently using the CAS PD-2Z30 scale with up to 30lb capacity and wants to keep it when moving to Clover POS. They rely on an integrated scale workflow, and manually entering weight is not an acceptable option for their business. The question is simple: Will the CAS PD-2 integrate directly with Clover POS? If not, is there any workable path to keep the scale they already own?
Answer
Clover POS does not allow any scale other than its own approved CAS SW-RS 20lb scale to be physically connected and interfaced. This is a strict Clover limitation built into their operating system and device permissions. Because of this restriction, the CAS PD-2Z30 - or any other CAS model outside of the official Clover SW-RS 20lb scale - cannot be connected to Clover for real-time, integrated weighing.
For some merchants, CSI Works provides apps that enable an alternate workflow using label printing scales. In this method, the scale prints a barcode label that includes the item number and the weight or price. Our parsing apps allow Clover to read that barcode during checkout. However, this is not the same as a physically connected scale, and it does not allow the CAS PD-2 to interface directly with Clover.
When a merchant truly needs an integrated higher-capacity scale (30lb, 60lb), Clover cannot satisfy that requirement. This is exactly where CorePOS becomes the alternative. CorePOS supports CAS PDN series scales with capacities up to 60lbs, enabling the merchant to keep their existing scale and maintain a fully integrated weighing workflow.
