What does Negative Tender App do on Clover POS

What does this app do?

This app gives the merchant an ability to create a negative tender or cash back option.

It means cash out from the register and into the hands of the customer or vendor.

There are several examples where this button can be useful, for example:

  • CVR – Recycle Value Refund.
  • Lottery Payment – Payout against winning lottery ticket.
  • Vendor Payment – Payment to Vendor for inventory or expense items.
  • When the merchant creates a negative tender button, it shows up right on the Clover register payments screen.

How does this app work?

While the app is limited to creating only one negative tender button, it has the ability to provide different payout reasons for each transaction. To set that up, the merchant would select a checkbox called “Set Variable Payout Reason.” When selected, the merchant can provide a list of pre-defined payout reasons and/or type a payout reason during the transaction. The name of the tender will drive the name of the button and how the transaction appears in reports and the cash log. In cases where Variable Payout Reason is selected, the payout reason will be entered in reports and the cash log. The merchant opens the Negative Tender app and creates a brand-new Negative Tender, which automatically gets created in the register app. In this context, a negative tender is a payment from the merchant to their customer.
