A merchant was running multiple promotions on the same product, such as 2 for $6 and 3 for $7, and noticed Clover applying or prompting discounts in unexpected ways. They needed a clean discount setup that works when customers buy 2, 3, 5, or more units without Clover duplicating or misapplying discounts.
Answer
Mix or Match Discount Builder offers two distinct ways to stack or apply multiple discounts. Choosing the right method depends on how predictable and controlled the discount behavior needs to be at the register.
1. Automatic Discount Stacking
This option allows discounts to layer on top of one another when their conditions are met. Clover will prompt the cashier to choose which discount to apply or apply all allowed discounts.
This is useful when overlapping discounts can both be applied independently and there is no defined order or progression.
However, when two discounts target the same item and same quantities, Clover may show duplicate prompts or apply a discount more than once. This is a Clover behavior, not a Mix or Match issue.
2. Manual Progression Setup
This method is designed for merchants running structured promotions, such as 2/$6 and 3/$7 on the same product.
Instead of relying on Clover’s automatic stacking logic, merchants define the quantity breakpoints and exact discount amounts inside Mix or Match.
This gives the merchant full control over:
-
What discount applies at quantity 2
-
What discount applies at quantity 3
-
What happens when the customer buys 5 or more units
-
Preventing Clover from duplicating or stacking discounts incorrectly
By defining the progression manually, Mix or Match applies exactly one discount per qualifying breakpoint and ensures accuracy every time.
